Empowering Farmers, Strengthening Communities.

Pharmakina’s mission extends far beyond pharmaceutical production. Our entire model is built around shared value creation — fighting malaria while supporting thousands of Congolese farming families and building sustainable economic growth in the Democratic Republic of Congo. Through long-term partnerships with smallholder farmers, Pharmakina ensures that the cultivation of cinchona bark — the source of quinine — creates stable livelihoods, healthcare access, environmental protection, and inclusive growth.

The Outgrower Scheme:
A Fair and Transparent Supply Chain

The Centers of Excellence:
Rural Development Beyond Farming

Pharmakina’s Centers of Excellence (CoE) serve as integrated hubs for agriculture, education, healthcare, and community services — empowering entire regions.

Planting Support & Sustainable Agriculture

Distribution of high-yield, disease-resistant cinchona seedlings produced in Pharmakina’s
in-vitro propagation laboratory.

Ongoing reforestation efforts: around 9,300 trees planted per hectare — 9,000 cinchona trees complemented by 300 shade trees — to enhance soil health and support carbon sequestration.

Intercropping pilot projects to increase land use efficiency.

Farmer Training & Capacity Building

Continuous hands-on training programs covering:

  • Sustainable farming practices
  • Harvest optimization
  • Financial literacy
  • Land stewardship
  •

Over 500+ farmers trained between September 2024 and March 2025.

61% of trainees are women, with gender participation targeted to exceed 65% by 2026.

Healthcare Access

Fully equipped on-site health centers integrated into each Center of Excellence.

Full-time nurses and weekly part-time doctors provide medical care.

Free malaria testing and treatment available for farmers and their families.

Each center provides healthcare to up to 11,000 individuals, including surrounding communities.

Collection Centers & Income Stability
